Stars Foundation was founded in 2001 with the vision of transforming the lives of disadvantaged children and their communities globally. We believe effective local organisations are best placed to respond to the needs of children in their care, and that well-managed organisations should be given the flexibility and support to decide how to spend the funding they receive.
Our flagship programme, the annual Stars Impact Awards, was developed with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and launched in 2007. The Impact Awards recognise and reward outstanding local organisations working to improve child health, education, protection and WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) solutions across the world.
In addition to our two current regions of Asia-Pacific and Africa-Middle East, the Impact Awards are now also open to organisations working in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In order to be eligible for an Impact Award, each applicant organisation must…
…be a locally registered non-profit-making organisation – a charity, non-governmental organisation, voluntary organisation or similar.
…work directly or indirectly with children in one or more of the areas of Health, Education, Protection or WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene).
…be legally established and registered in one of Stars Foundation’s eligible countries.*
…have its own independently audited annual accounts.
…have an annual income in its most recent set of independently audited annual accounts of more than US$200,000 but less than US$4,000,000 (or equivalent in local currency).
…have its own constitution.
…have its own bank account.
…have its own and dedicated Board of Trustees/Directors.
…have independent decision-making power and complete autonomy over how it spends its money.
…be open to staff and beneficiaries from different faiths.
Up to $100,000 in unrestricted funding: Financial capital that puts decision-making into the hands of recipient organisations, enabling them to respond to changing realities on the ground.
Tailored consultancy support: Including access to training and organisational strengthening, enabling recipients to maximise the benefits of the Award.
Media training and communications: Providing recipients with the training, tools and opportunities to increase their profile.
Our approach is underpinned by a rigorous selection process assessing each organisation against six criteria:
1. Delivery of programmes
2. Strategy & Leadership
5. Stakeholder Involvement & Accountability
3. Finance & Administration
6. Human Resource Management
